The Great Acting Blog: “What’s The Story?”

We don’t like talking about ourselves because we’re not satisfied with our accomplishments and we’re afraid of what we think of ourselves. This is especially true when we hear that hideous question; “so, are you working at the moment?”

We are acutely aware of the enormity of the accomplishments of great actors and our own seem puny in comparison. There are few professions where you are expected to be famous, unfortunately acting is one of them. Consequently, because we are not famous (well, most of us aren’t anyway), we become  anxious at having to explain ourselves and resent justifying our existence to sceptics.

Remember that it’s all just a story. Your career, what you’ve done, it’s just a story. Whether you’re in an interview, or writing a letter, or at a party, it’s all just a story. Decide on a compelling narrative and tell it. We shouldn’t have any problems with this, because, after all, y’know, we are story-tellers, right?
