The Great Acting Blog: “Keep The Fire Burning”

What do you want to be known for? What kind of actor do you want to be known as? You can’t chase everything. Film, television, theatre, radio, (web?) whichever one you focus your time, energy and resources on, means less for the others. If you try for all of them and spread yourself, will you be able to compete with someone who is putting all of his resources into just one of them?

Which form do you love the most? Which form are you passionate about? If the answer is none of them then you’re probably in the wrong line of work. It’s unlikely you’ll love all of them equally, it would be remarkable if you did. The form you do love however, is the one you should keep coming back to because it’ll keep the fire burning.

I for one love film and TV. However I find theater very challenging and would really like to pursue that avenue as well. You are right about some actors spreading themselves too thin a la James Franco. But would you say he is an over-achiever?

To ne honest, I don’t know much about him.

But i think a solid theatrical background is the best way to strengthen technique.
