The Great Acting Blog: “A Dazzling Intensity”

Enthusiasm, energy and focus go an awful long way to convincing somebody of your case, or in getting them to do what you want them to do. You can make sense and appear to be reasonable, but this has less effect if you lack passion.

The audience are much more likely to believe and follow the energised actor, the active actor, the one who is passionate about his work, the one who has picked an action for the scene which excites him.

I’m not talking here about some forced bright-eyed-bushy-tailedness, but an energy which comes from within, which comes from having a true connection to the work, a true connection to the task or idea at hand – it cannot be faked. The result is often a fascinating intensity that is not harsh but dazzling.
