Noirish Project Blog: “The Joys Of Locations”

Location scouting is one of my favourite parts of the filmmaking process, for me, it’s where alot of the work is done. It is a solitary activity, peaceful and contemplative, it allows me to use my imagination; when I look at a certain location, I project the scene from my mind’s eye onto it, trying to envisage what the characters would look like when standing in a certain place, and framed from a certain angle. Noirish Project is about a pair of scrappy low-lifes, which means alot of the locations are street corners, and back alleys, and these are a lot of fun to work on, and make for great visuals. I’m especially lucky to be working in London, it’s a city where many of the streets actually look like film sets built in Hollywood, London is intrinsically cinematic.

We have a final rehearsal tomorrow, then we begin shooting on Sunday, and will continue, in stages, throughout March and April. I, for one, am very looking forward to getting stuck into it.
