The Great Acting Blog: “Extraordinary Is Easier Than Mediocre”

Most actors don’t believe they are or can be great actors. Certainly few possess the drive and creative ambition of, say, an Al Pacino or a Laurence Olivier. Most actors think such an aim is preposterous. In consequence, they accept themselves as mediocre, happy just to occasionally “get work”. Their acting objectives are “realistic”.

Well, that’s all fine and dandy, but striving to accomplish that which most others are striving to accomplish, is actually more difficult than trying to accomplish something extraordinary. Why? Because there are less people trying to accomplish the extraordinary, so there is less competition and more space.
