The Great Acting Blog: “What The Audience Wants”

The audience comes to the play or the film because of what’s in it for them. They might want entertainment, distraction, self-knowledge, cultural validation, connection, delight, relief, communion, or to fix something. Whatever the reason, they come to please themselves, not to admire the artist or the artist’s technique.

The audience comes to our work because of what’s in it for them. We would do well to remember that.
