The Great Acting Blog: “What Kind Of Work Do You Want To Put Into The World?”
If you put out true work, work which strives to make a genuine connection, work which is made lovingly and with care, then it will be of interest to an audience who wants all of those things. The reason great artists, who produce extraordinary work, have such a powerful effect on their audience is because, in essence, their work effects those who are similar to it – i.e: those who are looking for powerful connection, who want to care. Work however, which is formulaic, which is designed purely as a product, which is only aimed at getting people to part with their cash and seeks nothing higher, is usually forgettable and fails to ignite passion – it only attracts those who don’t care, who only want some temporary distraction.
In the end then, what you put out is what you’ll get back. If your intent is to manipulate and flatter, then you’ll receive same. Likewise if your intent is to connect meaningfully and tell the truth.
