The Great Acting Blog: “The Trouble With A Little Bit Of Knowledge”

Preconceptions are too often used as an excuse for inaction; “oh, I won’t bother trying to get that project off the ground because the little I know about it suggests to me that it probably won’t work.”  Truth is, we don’t really know until we try. Once we start and get in amongst a project, so often those preconceptions are proved wrong.

What are we losing by allowing our very limited preconceptions to limit us? What are we not accomplishing? How much is it costing us?

Instead of using the small amount of information as a basis for doing nothing, why not flip it around, and say; you know what? I am really interested in accomplishing this thing, I don’t know much about it, I’m going to take action and find out more.

A little bit of knowledge invokes fear. It becomes a barrier, when it should be an invitation to step forward and learn more.
