The Great Acting Blog: “Slaves And Fools”
It used to be the case that if an actor was rejected by the status quo, there wasn’t much they could do about it. Either they kept on trying to appeal to a system which didn’t really need them or they could find something else to do. But as we know, the world is changing, and new opportunities are arising for actors, opportunities that never existed before.
There are, as we know, the guilded few who get to enjoy the vast majority of the gravy and have a good (and profitable) reason to keep the status quo exactly as it is, thank-you very much. However, there are also those who have been shut out from the status quo but still fight to their last breath in order to maintain it. It is hard to understand why, perhaps they expect to join the ranks of the status quo one day, and want to ensure that it remains in tact. If this is true, then these people are slaves and fools.
