The Great Acting Blog: “Shun Superficiality – Make A Total Commitment To Your Work”
Sometimes I wonder what a lot of actors are trying to achieve. They seem so indifferent, nothing seems to matter to them, and they are so unfocussed, so lacking in intensity, you wonder why they bother. One thing is for sure though: superficiality is boring, and it’s not built to last.
The actors who interest us, the actors we care about, are the actors who have made a total commitment to their work. Every moment of their lives is dedicated to their growth as an artist. This extra effort may not make them richer and it may not make their life easier, but so what? That’s not the purpose of everything. No, they do it for themselves. Their extra effort though, gives them the ability to move us deeply with their work, and consequently we feel truly connected to them – they alleviate our isolation and loneliness.
