The Great Acting Blog: “Our Heroes Connect Us To Our Important Work”

When we think of our heroes, we are inspired by their work and what they have accomplished, we are inspired by what they represent. It’s also important to note however, that they prevent us from becoming frauds. Their work connects to something deep inside of us, and that something is also the driver of our own work. The work which comes from a deep place, is our true work, the work which really matters, it troubles us and demands more of us than we are sometimes prepared to give, and so it’s often more comfortable to shy away from it, or ignore it, or repress it, and concentrate on easier, meaningless work.

Our heroes reveal to us the disparity between what we should be doing and what we actually are doing.

If we’ve been betraying our important work, then returning to our heroes will help us to re-focus on it. We may, in the process however, experience a shock of self-loathing within, before ultimately being strengthened.
