The Great Acting Blog: “It’s All You’ve Got”

Your performance may only be one part of the production, but it is all of your own work. You better make sure the end result meets your own satisfaction because when you look back, there can be no excuses – that’s what you did, that’s what your work’ll be.

You cannot hide. Do not think that you can just dissolve into the overall production because you can’t, although it may be tempting to think that you can. It’s your performance up there, not the director’s or the production’s, it’s yours.

The script may stink, the director may be a boring fool, the production a shambles, and the other actors demoralised, but it does not matter, you cannot allow yourself to get drawn into that, you need to set and maintain your own standards for your own work.

The production might not be yours but your performance is. Infact, it’s all you’ve got.
