The Great Acting Blog: “How Much Is Your Work Worth To You?”

Many complain about their lot but do nothing to improve it. The conclusion here must be that, despite their protestations, they do not want change. As frustrating as it can be, there is comfort in a failing status quo.

The fear is very often not of failure, but of accomplishing something meaningful, something that might get noticed, something life changing. This would be a leap into the great unknown, activating all sorts of new questions. In addition, it would increase our responsibilities while diminishing our personal freedom – suddenly we have a greater obligation to our work, we have to make an even stronger commitment to it.

The challenge then, is to overcome our fears and achieve by fulfilling our potential, which in turn creates change in our lives. All too often we come up with distractions and excuses to ensure that we remain anchored in safe, cosy mediocrity.

How much is your work worth to you? How much of yourself are you willing to give to it? How much discomfort are you willing to endure on behalf of it? Would it be a tragic waste if you did not strive to unlock your true potential, and deliver the results to the world?
