The Great Acting Blog: “How Knowing Our Limitations Leads To Progress”
We work our little cotton socks off to achieve one goal, then we go and up the ante by deciding that, next time, we will try to accomplish something a little bit harder. As we sketch out a plan to achieve this next conquest, we realise that we haven’t got the goods to do it. There’s nothing like taking on a new, big project to reveal our limitations. Of course, our limitations are not limitations in general, they are only limitations at that moment in time. Through research and education and engagement we can go beyond those limits and into new territory. Just think of a goal which may have seemed almost impossible a few years ago but which now you could accomplish quite easily – this comes about because of improvements we make.
That’s why it’s so important to keep taking on ever bigger projects. Each one will reveal the new limitation, and once it is revealed we are able to take action to overcome it. And if we keep repeating this process, we will create a steady progression toward where we eventually want to end up.
