The Great Acting Blog: “Don’t Quit In Order To Conform”
Perhaps you’re not making any money, or you’re not achieving all that you want to, or you don’t yet fully understand what it is you’re trying to do. It doesn’t matter, keep going, don’t quit. The artist’s life is a precarious one. It’s natural for those around you, family and friends, to want you to go into something safer, more lucrative, more routine. Ignore them, ignore the pressure to get a steady job, to get married, to lead a so-called respectable lifestyle. Ignore these siren calls and remain committed to your work. Refuse to allow the empty noise of day-to-day living to drown out your art.
You became an actor for a reason. Something inside of you called you, it spoke to your true self, to who you really are. Don’t betray your true self and live out the life others want for you, or the life you think you should be living. Instead, stay focussed and get better and better at what you do.
If you quit in order to conform, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.
