The Great Acting Blog: “Don’t Be Frightened Of Creative Choices”

Don’t be frightened of creative choices. These are the ones that feel a little bit risky, that may just get us into a little bit of trouble. They leap out of the imagination unexpectedly, and they feel right but we don’t quite understand them and we’re not sure whether they’ll work or not. But they’re also the most:
provocative
thrlling
vivid
bold
original
impactful
inspirational
intense
meaningful
personal
choices we can make in our work.
The other kind are the choices we make out of fear, the choices we make not to express some truth but to avoid criticism. These choices are not creative, they are facsimile’s of what worked in the past (for yourself or others). They tend to be bland and listless, and nobody seems to care about them either way.
