The Great Acting Blog: “Delusional Actors Are Scared”
Believe or not, there are actors out there too scared to make a proper commitment to the craft of acting and all of it’s demands. They’re just too scared to cross that threshold and give themselves fully to it.
This kind of person describes themselves as an actor, but in truth, rarely practices the art. They complain about not working but never actually do anything to get some. For them, acting is little more than a pose, a disposition. The desire might be there, but they seem incapable of converting it into action.
What is at the root of all this? Perhaps it’s not so much a fear of failure but a fear of having their delusion shattered, their delusion about who they might become. If they never take action then they will never be rudely interrupted by the outside world, they can live comfortably with their self-deceit and their excuses instead.
How sad, and, what a waste.
The real tragedy though, is that nobody will be judging their efforts, and even if they were, nobody’s judgement is final.
