Cultivate The Habit Of Patience | The Great Acting Blog

When so much of the actor’s career is out of his control, it might be a good idea to cultivate the habit of patience.

Patience means strength. It means holding your nerve, being mentally tough, remaining focussed on important tasks when under pressure and executing them properly. It’s especially important when a successful result from your effort is far from certain.  It means believing that you’ll find a way through.

Impatience is a sign that perhaps the work you’re doing is not important enough to you to justify the time and resources you are spending on it or that it’s going to need. Impatience can also suggest that perhaps you lack the confidence in your ability to find your way in the darkness.

Choose then, only to do those tasks essential to the completion of your important goals, and choose to be confident in your ability to solve problems. This will help you to cultivate the habit of patience, and in turn enable you to keep going, through the uncertainty and for the long haul.
