The Great Acting Blog: “Compare Today With Yesterday”
I heard a great idea recently about accomplishing big, difficult objectives:
Don’t worry about whether you’re getting closer to the objective each day, rather compare where you are at today with yesterday. The point is that making this comparison enables us to see our progress, even if the increment is small, which is in turn energising. Often, just thinking about a big, complex goal can be demoralising and the individual actions we take to accomplish it can seem so small as to be irrelevant. We can remain focussed however, by comparing today with yesterday.
Understanding that one difficult beat in the script may only comprise a few lines of dialogue out of the whole, but it is problem you had yesterday which is gone today. Further, you may now be stronger at script analysis today than you were yesterday for overcoming the difficulty – progress indeed. Already we can see how inspiring this kind of analysis can be.
I’m going to practice it.

What a terrific, succinct way of looking at the larger picture. I will definitely put this advice into practice. Thank you!
