The Great Acting Blog: “Become The Artist You Need To Be”
Perhaps a project you tried to get off the ground fell apart, or you’re not yet capable of delivering the kind of work you would like to. Perhaps it all seems so far away that it overwhelms you.
If you attempt something and it breaks, it’s not  the end of the world. It just means that the time isn’t right, something is missing, or perhaps you’re just not ready. However, you should not limit yourself to what you are capable of delivering today, but strive to become that person capable of delivering all that you want to tomorrow.
It’s about developing the mental strength to remain focussed on your work despite stress and pressure, and having the self-disicipline to keep your intentions directed toward where you want to go. So it’s a question of facing down external and internal resistance.
This can only be developed in the arena, under real world pressure, not in classes or through any kind of simulation. Something must be put at stake, something which you have to fight for, something where there is a real cost of failure. And this must be done not once, but continually, because it is the only way to gain strength, and become the artist you need to be.
