Jean-Paul Belmondo: 9th April 1933 – 6th September 2021
For those of us driven and intoxicated by the history of cinema, Belmondo is one of those figures who transcends his own work. He forms part of a tapestry of cinematic atmospheres; haunting us, inspiring us, inflecting and informing our work.
Belmondo is an acting icon, a representative for a certain kind of cinema. He is a figure from that mythological era of mid-20th century European film. His image will always be ensconced in Godard’s seminal À Bout de Souffle, but also as Silian in Melville’s gangster-tragedy, Le Doulos. He is a great actor.
RIP Jean-Paul Belmondo.
