The Great Acting Blog: “Your True Intention”

You cannot hide your true intention. Doesn’t matter how you cloak it, it cannot be hidden –  not from those people in your life, not from those you work with and mostly certainly not from the audience.

Best to keep your intentions pure then. How to do that? By understanding the true purpose, the true object of everything you do, and then proceed accordingly.

If the goal of your performance is to seduce a casting director, then it will inflect your intention. Similarly if your goal is to make people think you are cute and fluffy. If your goal is to face the truth of the moment, no matter how stressful that may be, no matter how it may reveal parts of yourself that you’d rather keep hidden, then that too will inflect your  intention.

Understand the object of your work. What is it for? Or, put another way, what goal in your work is worth fighting for? Only you know, and the answer will reflect your own nature.
