If you fail to take responsibility for your work, if you allow your future to be decided by agents and casting people and directors, then other people are deciding what kind of an actor you’re going to be. If you’re happy with that, don’t complain about what you become.
Have the confidence to examine your situation truthfully, and if you don’t like the conclusions you draw, then change your situation to one that offers conclusions you do like. Don’t be polite, don’t be humble. We’ve got a mass surfeit of actors who just go with the flow, who do what they’re told. We’re short of actors who possess true individualism, actors who’ll step out and define an aesthetic.
