The Great Acting Blog: “Confront Weaknesses”

If you have weaknesses in your acting, don’t ignore them, don’t brush them under the carpet in order to maintain feelings of comfort. Have the courage and the energy to confront them. Develop the confidence to examine your work honestly.

Acknowledging your weaknesses should not affront your self-esteem. Having weaknesses in certain areas does not mean that you are a bad actor overall, it does not mean that you don’t belong in the profession. So there is no need to feel afraid of facing up to your weaknesses. There is no need to pretend that your work is perfect, and that you know everything.

If this work of improving weaknesses isn’t done, your development as an actor, as an artist, and as a person, will stunt, and prevent you from becoming the actor we need you to be.
